Welcome. Our university proudly bears the name of Jan Evangelista Purkyně, a renowned native of nearby Libochovice. He was a true Renaissance man—one of the founders of modern biology, embryology, and physiology. Inspired by his versatility, we currently manage a broad portfolio of 65 study programs and 192 fields of study. We serve as a modern pillar of education and culture for the entire Ústí nad Labem Region.
Scope and Structure of the Institution
Our community comprises over 8,500 students and 900 employees. As an integral part of the city of Ústí nad Labem, we have been operating as a unified university since 1991. Today, our scientific and pedagogical reputation is upheld by the following eight faculties:

Historical Milestones
The roots of our institution trace back to 1954. Our journey—from a Higher College of Education to a Faculty of Education—culminated on September 28, 1991, with the official establishment of the university. Let us take a brief look at the chronicle of our development:
- 1993–2000: The formation of our artistic disciplines, evolving from an institute into the Faculty of Art and Design.
- 1998–2006: The transformation of technical fields into the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
- 2005–2006: The establishment of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts from their original specialized institutes.
- 2012: The completion of our current structure, marked by the elevation of health studies into an independent faculty.
